Black Cars is a deeply personal song I wrote after losing two close family members to cancer. What began as a song about something completely different soon became a reflection on grief, funerals, and “black cars” — symbols of loss and the resilience needed to keep moving forward. It was also inspired by the devastating floods in Tennessee and North Carolina, where lives were lost and entire communities had to rebuild. Growing up in this region, I saw firsthand how people find strength in the face of tragedy. That spirit of resilience and community is at the heart of Black Cars.
