This webinar will present an overview of Prof. Tommaso Melodia's work laying the basic architectural and algorithmic principles for new approaches to design open, programmable, AI-powered, and virtualized next-generation cellular networks. It will discuss architectural aspects, automation principles, and algorithmic frameworks enabling orchestration and management of intelligence, as well as coexistence between AI and RAN on a shared computed infrastructure. It will also focus on intent-driven orchestration and network control through rApps, xApps, and dApps operating at multiple time scales on the radio access network, with a focus on mitigation of conflicts arising from multiple Apps attempting to control correlated functionalities and on explainability of the resulting network behavior. Speaker: Tommaso Melodia, Northeastern University, USA Moderators: Ian F. Akyildiz, Editor-in-Chief, ITU Journal on Future and Evolving Technologies (ITU-J FET) Alessia Magliarditi, ITU Journal and ITU-T Academia Coordinator, International Telecommunication Union (ITU) This webinar is organized by the ITU Journal on Future and Evolving Technologies (ITU J-FET), an international journal providing complete coverage of all communications and networking paradigms, free of charge for both readers and authors. The ITU Journal considers yet-to-be-published papers addressing fundamental and applied research. Open topics for future research will be discussed.
