Watch Dr Miranda Kaufmann, author of "Black Tudors: The Untold Story" (2017), discuss the presence of Africans in Tudor and early Stuart Westminster. She explores the life of John Blanke, and other Africans, using information that can be pieced together from the Westminster parish registers and records of court cases held in the Palace of Westminster. This talk was recorded specially for Westminster Abbey for A level History students. Teachers may also want to explore these free A-level Tudor resources from Westminster Abbey: https://www.westminster-abbey.org/lea... Correction: Since this presentation was given, Dr Miranda Kaufmann has clarified that the document being discussed from 09:40 onwards was from the funeral of Henry VII in 1509, rather than Prince Arthur’s funeral at Worcester Cathedral in 1502. This means that the earliest record for John Blanke remains at 1507. Photo credit: Rose Collins
