Following horrifying claims from a former sanitation worker, the Karnataka government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe alleged mass murders, sexual abuse, and disappearances in Dharmasthala spanning over two decades. The whistleblower alleges he was forced to bury hundreds of bodies of women and girls, many showing signs of rape and violence, between 1995 and 2014. He claims influential people were involved, stating in his complaint, "When I resisted, I was threatened and told, 'You will be chopped into pieces like them. Your family too will be sacrificed.'"
