Finally, I've played pretty much every version of Sonic CD for the channel! I've been wanting to do a longplay of this for quite some time, and I'm so glad I found a way to do so. The way I recorded this longplay, was that I played it on my Steam Deck, then I clicked Sonic Origins Plus on the Steam Library on my PC, clicked Connect, and bam! I've got Sonic Origins Plus streaming through my computer via the Steam Deck, and it's a more reliable way for me to record footage of Sonic Origins Plus since my computer runs it like crap due to Denuvo! So yeah, the version of Sonic CD featured on Sonic Origins Plus. It's pretty much the same as the original 2011 RSDK remake, except there were some weird, unnecessary changes in this version. The most obvious thing changed, is that Sonic no longer has voicelines, and neither does Amy when she's captured! I'm really not sure why SEGA made this change, I'm guessing because Classic Sonic was depicted as not having a voice in the 2010s/2020s? But come on, that would be a ridiculous reason... well, maybe ridiculous enough to make sense, but I'm still confused why they removed the voiceclips. The bubble timer sound seems to be a little high pitched in this version, though I'm not sure if it was originally supposed to sound like that since the PC 1996 & Gems Collection releases didn't have it, and I forgot what the OG Sega CD version's sound effect sounded like. And well, of course the US OST is automatically selected, but that doesn't bother me at all since I love the US OST, though I still really like the JP OST sometimes. As for how all the characters play & look, well, Sonic & Tails play exactly the same as how they did in the 2011 release of course, except for Sonic now having the drop dash, which definitely breaks the purpose of gaining speed in order to time travel, as it's basically a one-way ticket to getting there easier. Knuckles & Amy are the new additions in Sonic CD for Origins Plus, and Knuckles' new sprites honestly don't look that bad in my opinion, though the fanmade Knuckles in Sonic CD 2011 mods did have better looking sprites before this, so I guess fans beat SEGA to the punch. Though no offense, because Knuckles does play great, but his time travel is also broken since you can also glide to time travel after gaining enough speed. Plus the new level design for him? Yeah, it just feels slapped together, I can especially tell by Metallic Madness Act 1 where after I got hit, I ended up right at the beginning of where Sonic, Tails, or Amy starts, making the new route pretty pointless to be honest. Amy on the other hand, well, she ain't really anything too special. She's sorta like Sonic 3's Sonic, where she can do a hammer jump that acts like an instashield, and holding it down just acts as another ground attack. Amy's pretty cool in Sonic CD, but I definitely preferred her moveset in Sonic Forever & Sonic 2 Absolute, even if those are fanmade. Oh, and of course during the Amy longplay near the end, my Steam Deck powered off automatically, so I had to turn it back on, stream the game through my PC again, and then continue recording. Thankfully, it did save on Metallic Madness Act 2's Good Future, so I didn't have to worry about corrupted saves or anything. I gotta say, besides the unnecessary changes, this is still a pretty fun way to play Sonic CD, especially with a slightly bigger selection of characters to play with! Personally, I'd rather stick with playing the 2011 release, especially with making & playing mods so much on the 2011 decomp, but if I were to play Sonic CD unmodded a few more times, this would probably be it.
