𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: This muscle makes a path from the top two bones in the neck and down below the trap muscles, inserting into the shoulder blade. 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: The name itself gives away what it does: lift the shoulder. In our modern human society, spending too much time staring down at our phones puts a lot of pressure on the neck’s deep muscles, and this muscle kicks in to give some support to the neck. Now it is stuck doing two jobs and gets overworked! When that pressure happens, the Levator Scapulae contracts to protect the area, causing it to overwork and develop adhesion from constant contraction. Adhesion is a big deal, causing decreased flexibility, pain, and weakness. 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐨 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐝𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧.
