Review: FlamingoGazzoline delivers an incredible looking map that does not overstay its welcome. I really liked playing this. It's pretty a engaging environment that's just got so much atmosphere. It's a fantastic use of the resources, combining textures, enemies, wildlife, and architecture to create a map that feels like uncovering a lost city. This really feels like the harkening back to Interception that I was hoping for, particularly levels like MAP14: Antidote. The combat is a lot of fun too, giving us a great mix of mid-tier enemies with some carefully selected power weapons (including berserk). It sets a great pace for the beginning of the episode, and should provide a nice cushion going into E4M2. I enjoyed using the teleport gates to traverse the demon city, jumping from platform to platform, and unlocking enemies as I went along. Another great touch is having all of the encounters be teased beforehand via the enemies in cages. Hell, even the intro is pretty great, with a nice slow descent revealing the entire city before dropping us right into it. Just a few minor things went awry during my playthrough. I had a couple of winged imps that could not get unstuck for the life of them. Some invisible ledges in those areas may help them navigate more easily. There's also a visual glitch towards the northwest end of the map that you can spot from the soulsphere secret. The three skull key switch doesn't animate when activating. Some void floors also don't kill you instantly, so maybe it's worth making the bottom of the map lava instead? Also, regarding the title, are we referring to the famous artist, Pablo Picasso? Just checking for spelling here. I am eternally grateful for all of the high quality submissions we've gotten so far. I'm really happy with how this wad is coming together thematically, visually, and as a gameplay experience. Project Thread on Doomworld: https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic...
