Northern Ireland’s highest peak known as Slieve Donard (850m) towers above the magical Mourne Mountains, the popular town of Newcastle and the deep blue Irish Sea. A well-defined trail, although muddy and steep in parts, took us up the hill along the Glen River through a rich forest, picturesque valley and rocky landscape. The impressive scenery of Mourne Mountains, the iconic Mourne Wall and the panoramic views from the Slieve Donard summit are well worth the effort.
