TICKETS TO SEE LOTUS WIGHT W/ SCOTT CLARKE AT ARTHOUSE CAFE OTTAWA, ON MAR 13: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/lotus-wig... Valley Reels on Instagram: / valleyreelspresents Follow Lotus Wight: / thereallotuswight Howdy folks, Welcome to another very special edition of Valley Reels Presents, today with the inimitable Lotus Wight, a true treasure of Canadian old-time music. If memory serves correctly, I think the first time Dalton and I saw Lotus Wight perform as with "The Complete Recordings of Hezekiah Procter," a sort of medicine show put on by Montreal's Lil' Andy. Performing in the quartet, Lotus's creativity and musicality made him a star of the show. It wasn't until about a year or so later that we had the chance to meet him when was in town playing with our pals at the Sunday Night Revue. If memory serves, your humble narrator was also playing that night and I had the pleasure of watching Lotus perform from the stage. And what a joy it was to watch. He's a man who knows how to tell a story. Every word he speaks and sings from the stage holds the room in rapt attention. Although he can be at times a soft and gentle speaker his singing voice is booming and dramatic, full to the brim with character and vitality. It's impossible not to listen when he sings, every word is dripping with musicality and intention. And he's one the nicest guys you're likely to meet in this life or the next to boot. We're so glad he came down to Ottawa to shoot his songs "Little Hat Jones" and "Dinah" with us, two of his originals. In Little Hat Jones, alongside his trusty resonator and his incredible voice, he plays the "Contra-bass Harmoniphonium," an instrument he constructed himself to accompany this music, and in Dinah he hambones and plucks the jaw harp in the breaks between his a capella singing. His songwriting is witty and fun, lyrical and steeped in old time tradition to produce these incredible songs. We hope you enjoy hearing them as much as we enjoyed capturing them! We owe a very special thank you to Scott and Teresa for letting us shoot in their lovely home. You may recognize Scott's name from one of our banjo videos last year, he's an excellent player and writer himself, and will be joining Lotus Wight on stage at the Arthouse cafe March 13th for the next Valley Reels Presents live show. Check the link in bio for tickets, it'll be a night for the history books, don't miss it! Until next time, Dalton, Ethan, and Charlotte
