In this opening presentation, Dawn discusses how Native American/Indigenous people model economic and social exchanges, as well as relationships with the natural world, on the reciprocity in all-natural systems. Reciprocity helps us see clearly through the eyes of the Earth—and as humans, we still have some lessons to learn in this regard. Speaker bio: Dawn Knickerbocker belongs to the Anishinaabe people, is a citizen of White Earth Nation, and is an enrolled member of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe from the Ottertail Pillager band of Indians. She is an environmentalist, activist, and Indigi-feminist working on culturally-based sustainable development issues and decolonization in her community and on her reservation. Dawn has been part of the Indigenous food movement for over twenty years. She is the current co-president of the Greater Cincinnati Native American Coalition, the founder of W.A.R.N. Ohio (Women of All Red Nations), and leader of Ohio Mothers Out Front. She is a published nonfiction writer, poet, and speaker, and a recent recipient of the 2020 Martin Luther King Drum Major for Justice Award. Dawn resides in Yellow Springs, Ohio with her husband and four sons. ______________________________________________________________________________________ Agraria Center for Regenerative Practice Our Mission: Regenerative practices that restore ecosystem health, heal our relationship with the land, and grow just and equitable food systems.
