It's 2024... At this point, I've covered Splatoon's Multiplayer, the Multiplayer of its sequels and the Single Player content of those sequels. But I've never given time to cover the first game's own Single Player material. I wanted to finally change that. Part of this is because I felt like making a "retrospective"-esque approach to Splatoon's growth as a franchise since 2015 and show it off as an "origin story" to the franchise's original Agent 3. Another reason is because this game (and all other Wii U & 3DS games) is about to lose its Nintendo Network service on April 8th, 2024. That means this game is about to lose its main feature. So although this playthrough is not about its main feature, I still wanted to finally make it as a send-off to that (assuming nothing changes or gets extended). ---------- Splatoon has come a long way of setting up your first squid kid. Here, when starting a new save file, all you can do is pick the Inkling's gender, skin tone, and eye color and then you're ready to go! Go through a course where you learn about the game's basic controls and some of its gameplay mechanics, all while bringing your Inkling Girl or Inkling Boy to the freshest place in the city: Inkopolis Plaza. ---------- Hero Mode technically starts once you've reached Inkopolis Plaza. Its news broadcast is hosted by the most popular music stars in the area: the Squid Sisters: Callie & Marie. Callie & Marie report in that the Plaza's Great Zapfish has gone missing. This creature is the biggest and most consistent source of the Plaza's power. If it isn't returned soon, the area could be in big trouble... When the game gives you a tour of what you can do and where you can go in the Plaza, it stops for a moment to show a crusty old Inkling guy hiding in a manhole... Jump into this manhole, and your squid kid will end up in a valley: Octo Valley. This old Inkling dude turns out to be Cap'n Cuttlefish, the captain of the New Squidbeak Splatoon. He's gone paranoid that the Inklings' sworn enemy, the Octarians, are planning a new attacking on Inkling territory, and he sensed that YOUR Inkling may be interested in helping him stop them. After some awkward moments of silence, Cuttlefish welcomes your kid into the force, and from there on, with a Hero Suit and Hero Shot in tow, your Inkling becomes Agent 3. Cuttlefish murmured to himself that your equipment is a "hand-me-down" from Agents 1 & 2, though... To enter a stage, shoot a kettle until it pops open, then dive into it as a Squid. ---------- (Dammit! I should've published this yesterday! It was MAR13 Day!)
