The ascent to Šmarna Gora (667 meters above sea level) takes from half an hour to just over an hour, depending on the route you choose. There are about fifteen organized and marked routes, mostly relatively undemanding. From the top there is a wonderful view of the Kamniš and Julian Alps, the Ljubljana Basin and even Dolenjska with the Trdinov Mountain. At the top, next to the hotel, stands the Baroque Church of the Virgin Mary, built in the first half of the 18th century. He was also served by the famous “Shepherd of Triglav”, priest, composer and mountaineer Jakob Aljaž, a native of the village of Zavrh at the foot of the hill. The oldest landmark of Shmarnaya Gora is the plague sign, erected by people who survived battles with the Turks and the plague.
