K.F.G Day (Ken Day) M.R.S.H, Clerk of Birmingham Executive Council, Hon. Secretary, Executive Councils' Association, England (1948 to 1979) On June 28th 1979 a dinner was held at the Birmingham City Council House, in celebration of Ken Day's retirement from the Family Services Section of the National Health Service, in Birmingham. The speeches have been split into two parts. The first video contains DR's tribute to Ken and some political anecdotes about the emergence of the NHS in Birmingham, during the post war period to the 1970s. This video has Ken's response and includes amusing memories of his thirty-one years working in the health services. The video also includes some film of DR & Ken visiting West Germany (in the 1950s) and Birmingham (in the 1970s). Mentioned: Alexander Shanks, OBE MC, served as the Chairman of the Birmingham Executive Council for the National Health Service (NHS). The Military Cross (MC) is a senior British military decoration awarded for gallantry during active operations against the enemy on land. The Birmingham Executive Council administered local GP and dental services. Related links of interest: The Birmingham Council House: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Council_Hous...
