Thursday, March 6th 1975. Footage of celebrations by thousands of Ghanaian school children of the 18th anniversary of their nation's independence. The parade at Independence Square in Accra, the capital city was presided over by Colonel Emmanuel Nyante, the Commissioner for Education and Culture. Colonel Nyante, on Thursday urged Ghanaians to strive hard to maintain the stability which he said the country had enjoyed since it gained independence. Reuters Text: "Colonel Nyante said the years ahead could hold nothing but promise for the nation if all Ghanaians ware to be guided by the principles of self-reliance with the Government was trying to inculcate into the citizens of the country. The Senegalese Information Minister, Dr. Daouda Sow was a guest at the celebrations. Similar parades were held in regional capitals to commemorate the granting of independence on 6 March 1957 after 113 years of British rule." Source: Reuters News Archive.
