Henry Ernest Geehl (1881–1961) was an English pianist, conductor, composer and arranger. A member of the teaching staff at Trinity College, London from 1919 until his death, he is perhaps best known among the brass band fraternity. Franz Grüber’s Silent Night needs little in the way of an introduction, its origin legendary. There are many sumptuous harmonisations of the famous melody and Geehl’s must surely be amongst them. The Schulze organ in St Bartholomew’s Church, Armley in Leeds (sampled for Hauptwerk by Lavender Audio) was built just a couple of years before Geehl was born.
