All words in the English language belong to a word class called the parts of speech. There are eight main parts of speech in the English language; namely: Nouns verbs adjectives adverbs pronouns prepositions conjunctions and interjections Noun is a part of speech that names a person, place, animal, or thing. Verb is a part of speech that names actions. Adjective is the part of speech that describes the quality of a person, place, animal, or thing. Adverb is the part of speech that add more information about a verb or an adjective. Pronoun is the part of speech that replaces a noun. Preposition is the part of speech that shows location, position, time, or direction. Conjunction is the part of speech that joins together groups of words or sentences. Interjection is the part of speech that shows emotion, surprise or emphasis.
