Armed Suspect Arrested Following Pursuit, Collision, and Fatality in Moncks Corner

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. - (Monday, August 25, 2025) Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis announced the arrest of a man who fled from deputies after a physical altercation, Saturday night. Eric Gerard Parrilla, 35, of Mulberry Crossing Lane, was arrested and charged with ten different charges. On Saturday, August 23, just after 10 p.m., Berkeley County deputies responded to assist the Moncks Corner Police Department with a reported physical assault involving a firearm at the Walmart in Moncks Corner. As deputies arrived in the area, Parrilla was observed fleeing the scene in a silver Mercedes SUV. When deputies attempted a traffic stop, Parrilla failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit traveled along North Highway 52 before turning onto North Live Oak Drive. Parrilla’s vehicle ultimately collided with an Infiniti SUV near the intersection of North Live Oak Drive and Highway 6. Parrilla then fled the crash scene on foot but was quickly apprehended by deputies a short distance away. During the investigation, deputies recovered over one pound of marijuana and two firearms from Parrilla’s vehicle. Additionally, three cellphones were seized for investigative purposes. Tragically, one of the occupants of the Infiniti SUV involved in the crash was pronounced deceased at the scene. Another victim sustained serious injuries. The South Carolina Highway Patrol’s MAIT Team responded and is leading the collision investigation. “This dangerous act could have been avoided if the suspect pulled over and faced the consequences of his actions,” Sheriff Duane Lewis stated. “Our deputies responded without delay to the scene to assist our municipal partner. Together, we acted quickly to apprehend a dangerous individual who was a threat to the community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family as they face this tragic loss.” Parrilla faces multiple charges from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Moncks Corner Police Department. Charges from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office include: Possession with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Two Counts of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Two Counts of Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime, and Resisting Arrest. Charges from South Carolina Highway Patrol include: Failure to Stop for Blue Lights and Sirens with Great Bodily Injury, Failure to Stop for Blue Lights and Sirens Resulting in Death, Felony DUI with Great Bodily Injury and Felony DUI Resulting in Death. Parrilla was charged with Assault and Battery, 3rd degree from the Moncks Corner Police Department.
