Rustique 4:13 III. Final Francis Jean Marcel Poulenc (7 January 1899 – 30 January 1963, Paris) was a French composer and a member of the French group Les Six. He composed solo piano music, chamber music, oratorio, choral music, opera, ballet music, orchestral music and some wind chamber works. Poulenc came from a well-off family; his father was a successful businessman in the pharmaceutical industry, while his mother was an amateur pianist who introduced him to music. Poulenc began playing the piano at an early age and was largely self-taught, though he later studied with the Spanish pianist Ricardo Viñes, who was a friend of Debussy and Ravel. During his early years, Poulenc was influenced by Erik Satie and Igor Stravinsky, embracing a light, witty, and sometimes satirical style.
