Adelaide - pre-electrification! The whole of the broad gauge system to the south of the city would shortly be closed to allow for electrification and the introduction of the 4000 series EMUs. Both of the locations featured in this film would be changed forever, with the erection of heavily engineered catenary masts and major track rationalistaion. We initially see a Class 3000 railcar leaving Brighton bound for Adelaide. The next couple of scenes are filmed at rush hour from our apartment, high above North Terrace. This was in the days when the aging Class 2000 'Jumbo' railcars still came out to play on peak hours services, and here we see a couple of sets heading from and to Gawler. Whilst the first set carries the newer Yellow and Blue colours of Adelaide Metro, the second unit is still sporting its original orange livery. As it leaves, a loco passes light engine on the standard gauge side of the triangle. To the left of the triangle can be seen the foundations for the new Royal Adelaide Hospital. The final shot shows five single car class 3000s heading out of the city and a Citadis tram heading for the Convention Centre.
