New York City mayor investigating pro-Israel mob attack on women in Brooklyn

Two physical assaults are under investigation after a pro-Israel demonstration turned violent. In one incident, a woman was surrounded by approximately 100 men from the pro-Israel crowd, who allegedly threatened to rape her and chanted “Death to Arabs” as they followed her down the street. The incidents occurred outside a Brooklyn venue where Israel’s far-right National Security Minister, Itamar Ben Gvir, was speaking. Nerdeen Kiswani, founder of the pro-Palestine organisation Within Our Lifetime, blamed the NYPD for enabling the violence. “The NYPD allowed the violence to unfold, even escalating it by siding with the attackers. The assault was not just ‘harassment’ - it was a brutal and coordinated attack against anyone opposing genocide,” she said. She also criticised Mayor Eric Adams for not addressing Ben Gvir’s role in the unrest. “The mayor’s failure to mention Ben Gvir or his role in provoking this violence is exactly why these Zionist mobs are emboldened,” Kiswani added. Ben Gvir has previously been sidelined by the Biden administration, which also sanctioned several extremist Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank. These policies were reversed under the Trump administration.
