This segment of the mulberry bow/composite bow project deals with converting the raw oryx horn into material that can be used to reinforce the bow belly. It recounts how the horn is split lengthwise, trimmed to length, and thinned so that each piece will respond to boiling and reshaping. I am using hand tools because that's my preference. Using a band saw, rotary tool, and belt sander would speed the process and make production much quicker, but that would only be of value to me if I began to make these bows in numbers. The next video will illustrate steaming and reshaping the horn pieces as well as rough and finish shaping of the bow's grip block and rigid siyahs. I hope you enjoy the video.
