Cyclone Chido causes major damage in Mayotte, heads for Mozambique

Cyclone Chido reached a secondary peak earlier today, shortly before battering the island of Mayotte with winds of at least 100 miles per hour and gusts of 140 miles per hour. The storm has caused substantial damage on the island, whilst gusty winds continue on the Comoros islands. Chido is now headed towards Mozambique as a Category 3, with landfall expected early tomorrow. More strong winds and a storm surge is expected when the storm arrives, with the likely landfall location between the cities of Pemba and Nacala. The storm will then sweep inland and weaken quickly, delivering up to 8 inches (200mm) of rain as far west as southern Malawi.
