These animations and others were made for the "Encounters of the second kind" meeting held at the Physics Department of the University of Barcelona in 2018. We show high quality photometric data in the infrared J, H and K bands of 2MASS and their counterparts in G, B and R Gaia optical band's. First we perform a longitudinal scan of DR2's sky using a 2 degree wide slit. Second we make the same scan for the galactic plane region between 10 and -10 degrees in latitude. Third we scan above the plane. Fourth we make a scan in latitude with constant slit-width and finally we perform a scan in latitude with constant number of stars per frame (changing slit width). Extintion curves (with the need for new potential extintion laws) can easily be interpreted in the diagrams aswell as interesting features when crossing the Magellanic clouds (associated with carbon stars entering the sample). This work is part of an ongoing research on luminous stars using Gaia's second data release by Jesús Maíz Apellániz and Michelangelo Pantaleoni from the Centro de Astrobiología at the European Space Agency's campus in Madrid.
