Episode #3: Medical Cannabis and Breast Cancer In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, learn about medical cannabis and breast cancer. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This annual campaign hopes to increase awareness and to raise funds for research into the cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure of breast cancer. While the search for a cure continues, there has been evidence that medical cannabis can help. So far, three cannabinoids stand out among the rest. 1. THC helps alleviate the pain and nausea associated with not just the disease, but also with side effects caused by chemotherapy. THC also helps to stimulate appetite. 2. CBD can help reduce disease-related inflammation, paranoia, and anxiety. 3. The minor cannabinoid CBG also shows great promise as a cancer fighter. According to the American Cancer Society, one study has shown CBG to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in mice. More research is being done. If you’re considering medical cannabis for breast cancer, here are some potential side effects to keep in mind: • the “high” effect • dizziness • lightheadedness • sleepiness The best remedy is to drink plenty of water, relax, lay down and sleep it off. As always, talk to your doctor before starting or stopping any medication, including medical cannabis. Questions, comments, concerns, or interpretive dances?
