Come into our world Video: Mark Warrington Words & Music: Joy Webb Featuring: Sunderland Millfield Songsters of The Salvation Army Conducted by: Songster Leader Jim Woods (circa 1994) The first Sunday in advent usually sees Sunderland Millfield Songsters sing Joy Webb’s timeless classic ‘Come into our world’. As we commence the journey of this 2020 advent season, as we prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of Jesus, the light of the world, we continue this tradition but in a virtual way. Our grateful thanks to Mark Warrington for skilfully creating such a powerful and thought-provoking video presentation. This is accompanied by a historic recording of our songsters, produced under the leadership of Songster Leader Jim Woods in the early 1990s. All imagery is from 2020, including: Wuhan, Syria, Black Lives Matter and other recognisable scenarios. The introduction between each verse symbolise the world in God’s hands. Each introduction sees the world get lighter and brighter, with God shining out from the world to remind us that He is ever present, even during times of great trial. The line pleading, ‘and if we needed you, we need you now!’ at the end of each verse intensifies on the slide as the song progresses, until the last verse and chorus shows God’s work in full colour. It reminds us that it has been there all the time in 2020, with images that are reminders of His love and humanity shown through us within our communities during these days of pandemic. May God richly bless you as you watch this video and consider its message for you today. Andrew Mair (Songster Leader) November 2020 Come into our world, All around us seemingly, darkness holds its sway; Truth and love are faltering, peace in disarray; And if we needed you, we need you now! Come into our world, Come into our world, now, Lord Jesus! People sit in loneliness, children cry for bread; Men fight men in hatred, by suspicion led; And if we needed you, we need you now! Come into our world, Come into our world, now, Lord Jesus! Faced with such confusion, hope has slipped away; Men have stopped believing, forgotten how to pray; And if we needed you, we need you now! Come into our world, Come into our world, now, Lord Jesus, come.
