Episode One: This video cover a good portion of the southbound leg of one of several trips that were part of the Reading, Blue Mountain & Northern annual fall foliage trips. Every weekend throughout October into early November, Reading and Northern runs several trips out of North Reading in the southern part of the Keystone State, Pittston in the northern half, and Pottsville in the middle. All three train sets bound for the town of Jim Thorpe (formerly Mauck Chuck) in the Southern Pocono Mountains. All of these trips run with a variety of motive power. Whether Steam, Diesel, or RDC (Rail Diesel Car). This one particular trip was the last steam for the Autumn Leaf season (and with that the 2024 season). Motive power provided was ex-Reading T-1 class Northern No. 2102, built in the Reading Company’s own shops in downtown Reading in collaboration with the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia in October of 1945, essentially as a rebuild from an I-10sa class Consolidation No. 2044, built 20 years previously in 1925. Portions of the southbound trip covered are from Nesquehoning to East Mahonoy Junction, and later jumping from Port Clinton to Reading (the final leg). Hope all who views this enjoys. Sincerely, Eric Schmincke. Jr
