People ask us what is the normal recovery time for lip reduction surgery. Lip reduction surgery per se procedure takes about an hour and there are sutures inside and there are sutures on the vermillion border(that is the red part of the lips,) which are present. Initial healing is about a week. You might have a little swelling for the first 2 to 3 days. Your lips will still feel numb and heavy. So usually we see the patients after a week, if some of the skin sutures, which have to be removed, which are removed. Complete healing of any procedure takes about 3 months., When I say complete healing, the lips become soft and normal like I was before. The suture line to heal, the stitches inside to dissolve and the sensations to come back to normal. So all that takes about 3 months. But for people to notice, it is basically about a week. After the sutures are removed, then it is back to normal, you can start doing all your normal activities. The only precaution that you need to take is to moisturize your lips and keep them moist rather than letting them dry because of the lack of sensation.
