CAMHS stands for child and adolescent mental health service. Coming to CAMHS isn’t something to worry about, lots of young people come to CAMHS. Chesterfield CAMHS is based in The Den at Chesterfield Royal Hospital it is a purpose built space for all children and young people’s outpatient services. If you arrive at The Den by car, the nearest visitor’s car parking is in car parks 5a and 6 Once you’re at The Den, just follow the signs for CAMHS. CAMHS is on the second floor, it has it’s own reception and waiting area There are specialist teams within CAMHS with different professionals such as doctors, psychologists, specialist nurses, support and therapy staff. They’re all trained to help and support young people. Young people that come to CAMHS might choose to come with a parent, carer, family member or on their own. In your first appointment your CAMHS worker will tell you more about the service. They’ll talk with you about the reasons you have come to CAMHS, and will ask you questions to help them get to know you and to better understand how they can help you. You’ll be able to ask questions and your CAMHS worker will agree a plan with you to make sure you get the support that is right for you.
