(14 Feb 2002) 1. Wide exterior of court 2. SOUNDBITE: (English) Dragoslav Ognjanovic, Milosevic legal advisor: "Very strong, very - everything was very, very obvious - very clear. And that's, that...you heard the man." (Question: "How long do you think he's going to continue his...?) "All day long, all day long tomorrow." 3. Reverse shot of Dragoslav Ognjanovic walking 4. SOUNDBITE: (English) Zdravko Tomanovic, Milosevic legal advisor: "He will sow (start) the first part of his opening statement tomorrow. He will begin with a new tape about the indictment, and tomorrow I expect he will finish his opening statement." ("Are you happy with the way...?") "Yes, tomorrow he will call witnesses. It will be only foreign witnesses, for example, Clinton, Blair, Vedrine, Chirac, (unknown name), Solana, Madeleine Albright and the other very famous persons." 5. Tomanovic walking away 6. Set-up shot of Head of Human Rights Watch, Richard Dicker 7. SOUNDBITE: (English) Richard Dicker, Head of Human Rights Watch: "The photographs he showed of civilian deaths in both Kosovo and in the rest of Yugoslavia are not relevant to the specific criminal charges that he's facing. The charges flow from indictments arising out of Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo, but have no connection to the number and horrific nature or civilian deaths in the NATO air campaign." 8. Cutaway security officers 9. SOUNDBITE: (English) Jim Landale, Tribunal spokesman: "Yes, well, the third day of the trial has been taken up entirely by the opening of Milosevic's statement, the opening statement which he's entitled to give. I think we'll see more of that tomorrow. A lot of flexibility has obviously been given by the judges on the subjects and areas that he's been covering in the opening statement. I think it's fair to say that once we get into the cases in chief - the prosecution's case and the defence case in chief - testimony and what is said in court is more subject to the rules of admissibility and, of course, that means relevance to the indictment." 10. Several cars, one carrying Milosevic leaving tribunal STORYLINE: On the third day of his trial on Thursday, former Yugoslav leader, Slobodan Milosevic, had a chance to respond to the prosecution's exhaustive two-day recital of horrors in Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo. Milosevic began with a sharp attack against the NATO bombing of Kosovo - a relentless 78-day operation in 1999 - that forced Yugoslav forces to abandon the drive against ethnic-Albanians rebelling against his regime. Outside The Hague war crimes tribunal in the Netherlands, legal advisors, spokesmen and experts gave journalists their views of Thursday's proceedings. Belgrade lawyer and one of Milosevic's legal advisors, Dragoslav Ognjanovic, said Milosevic's opening statement was very strong and clear. Another legal advisor to the defendant, Zdravko Tomanovic, said Milosevic will call witnesses on Friday (February 15), including former U.S. President Bill Clinton and British Prime Minister Tony Blair. But the head of Human Rights Watch, Richard Dicker, told journalists that photographs shown by Milosevic in court allegedly showing civilians killed by NATO forces were not relevant to the criminal charges he faces. He expected to continue with his opening statements on Friday (February 15).
