The air around him thickened, like static before a storm. The cards felt too heavy as he touched them, and the dealer’s eyes—once cold—now seemed to gleam with something darker. Suddenly, the lights flickered. The casino's ambient noise—the soft clink of chips, distant chatter—went silent. Brettski blinked, his heart racing. The dealer didn’t flinch. She simply smiled, her teeth unnaturally white against the dim backdrop. Then the first card turned over. It wasn’t a ten. It was an Ace, but not a normal Ace. It shimmered, the ink on the card blurring like it was wet. Brettski’s breath caught in his throat. "What the hell?" he muttered under his breath. Without warning, the entire table exploded into a whirlwind of cards, chips, and air. Time seemed to bend. The dealer’s face contorted into something monstrous, her eyes now glowing with an impossible fire. Brettski grabbed the edge of the table, but the floor beneath him began to shift, the casino walls twisting into impossible angles. He couldn’t breathe. He couldn’t think. And then… everything went black.
