Playthrough of Twinkle Tale a game exclusive to the Sega Genesis completed on the Super Hard Difficulty. This game was only released in Japan but theres a Patch to translate the game to English which is the version i am playing so the viewers can understand the story of the game as otherwise only the initial menus are in English by Default. Super Hard Difficult is a Hidden difficulty setting on Twinkle Tale as to unlock it you first need to beat the game on Hard mode so then you can unlock Super Hard. Since the game has no save feature of any kind, that means if you were playing on a actual console, you would need to always finish the game first on Hard for then go to Super Hard (However a stage select code does exist to make this easier). In the English Patch however, Super Hard is already unlocked by default. This game i never actually played back in the day nor heard of it as well but saw gameplay of it from streamers that i follow so outside of a quick run to get a feeling of the game and me seeing the gameplay, this is a first time run. Since this game plays in a similar manner to another game i already did plenty of runs of which is Arcus Odyssey, i have the skills necessary to tackle the game in its hardest difficulty one thing i wish Arcus Odyssey actually had. The difference the difficulty settings affect gameplay is the HP of enemies be it regular ones or Bosses and in Super Hard bosses can take quite a beating before going down. In Twinkle Tale you control a apprentice Magician named Saria and the game itself while similar to Arcus Odyssey, is also similar to other Top Down view shmup games like Twin Cobra as Saria has 3 types of projectiles that she can use and switch at will and similar to a Shmup, they can be powered up as well. The First is the Shooting Star which starts as a double straight line projectile but upgraded becomes a Spread Shot. This is the strongest shot DPS wise if at least 4 of the 5 shots are hitting the same target. Second is the Diamond Arrow which is a straight line Piercing projectile that can hit multiple foes at once in its path. This projectile is good for big targets where you cant safely get close to. Lastly is the Silver Comet and this one you will be using the most as its a Homing projectile which also turns into a spread once its upgraded. The minor downside is its weak individual power per hit but when the projectiles focus on a single target, its damage is quite high and since its homing its acurracy is second to none. All projectiles starts at level 1 and can be upgraded to level 3 by collecting power ups. The power ups will power the weapon you are currently equipped but if its already maxed out and the others are not, the game will allocate it to the others if it isnt maxed out already starting at the top then working its way to bottom so power up pick ups can never be wasted. Taking hits will decrease your equipped projectile level by one. Other then the projectiles, you can also collect Bomb style Magic through the stages with those being Fire Dragons and The Super Silver Comet. Fire Dragons is a full screen bomb while the Comet takes time to cast once used and will launch piercing homing projectiles that will randomly circle the screen. Because of its random nature the Dragons is the preffered Bomb to stock upon as its effect is instant. Bombs can also destroy any type of enemy projectile which makes the Fire Dragons even better. Fire Dragons overall damage is also far superior to the Comet. In Twinkle Tale you start with only 3HP, similar to playing Bead in the Japanese Arcus Odyssey and the only way to increase your maximum HP is to progress where at certain points you are given extra HP. Just like Arcus dying results in a game over and you dont have lives in this game only continues but you can earn extra continues by scoring. The first continue you earn at 20000 points then after that for every 50000 points. Theres one spot in the game where you can indefinitely farm points but you can only hold 9 continues at once. If your score goes over 99999, it will reset back to 0 but wont affect continue gains afterwards. If you continue you start at the beginning of the stage in the exact way you started so any levels and bombs picked will stay with you. Twinkle Tale can be a very hard game even when playing on Easy if you are not used to this type of game but if you play smart, its difficulty is very fair. Theres very few videos of Twinkle Tale on YT and even fewer on Super Hard with some users thinking Hard is is the actual hardest setting.
