Teaser: Geoffrey Bawa Documentary by Clara Kraft Isono

An architectural road movie set in Sri Lanka, this film is a genre-bending documentary about the work of the architect Geoffrey Bawa. The film unfolds as a travelogue, as a young architect-researcher scours the diverse and lush landscapes of the country to experience traces of Bawa’s work through buildings, gardens, and people. Dream-like sequences and interviews with close collaborators and friends are juxtaposed with the young protagonist’s personal experience of Bawa’s network of people and places. A meditation on the nature of human memory, the film captures a constantly shifting history and the remarkable oeuvre of one of the most significant architects of the late 20th century. The film is due for release in 2022. Directed by Clara Kraft Isono. Clara is an architect, filmmaker, and educator. Her research explores the possibilities of film in telling architectural stories. Currently she is working on two feature-length documentaries: one examines the work of the architect Geoffrey Bawa; the second, reimagines Can Lis, Jørn Utzon’s house in Mallorca, Spain, through the lens of mythical storytelling. Clara is the Director of Kraft Isono, a multidisciplinary film, architecture, and design practice. She holds an Architectural Association (AA) Diploma and a MA in filmmaking from the London Film School. For over two decades has taught architecture and filmmaking internationally. Since 2013 she has been running ADS6, an interdisciplinary architecture studio as part of the Architecture MA programme at the Royal College of Art, London, UK.
