Mercy Seat: The Throne of Grace "Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." (Hebrews 4:16) The "Throne of Grace" refers to the "Mercy Seat," the place of grace. It signifies the atonement cover between the two cherubim above the Ark of the Covenant (Exodus 25:22), where God’s presence dwelled and where He granted forgiveness and mercy to the people of Israel. In the Old Testament, the high priest would approach this Mercy Seat on behalf of the people to atone for their sins. This foreshadowed the New Testament, where Jesus Christ, our great High Priest, grants forgiveness and grace to all who come before Him (Hebrews 4:14-16).
