The 2024 Luzerner Fasnacht (February 8 – 13, 2024) was another massive success, drawing approximately 298,000 visitors over the course of the festivities. While slightly below the 2023 record, it featured record-breaking turnout for its final night. by: Schweizer Fernsehen 2024 Highlights & Records Total Attendance: Nearly 300,000 people celebrated in the city, with the police reporting a generally peaceful and "rüüdig" (fantastic) atmosphere. Monstercorso Record: The grand finale on Tuesday evening set a new all-time record with 40,000 spectators, the highest number ever recorded for this specific parade. Opening Day (Schmudo): The Urknall (Big Bang) at 5:00 a.m. drew 25,000 people to Kapellplatz, matching the high turnout of the previous year. The afternoon Fritschi-Umzug saw 40,000 spectators. The Plakette (Pin): The 2024 official pin was designed by Lucerne graphic artist Silvan Kaeser. The motif, titled "Lozärner Leu" (Lucerne Lion), featured the city's heraldic animal—a nod to the ubiquitous lions found on historic buildings and monuments throughout the city. by: Luzerner Zeitung Key Events & Attendance (2024) Feb 8 (Schmutziger Donnerstag): 25,000 for the Tagwache; 40,000 for the Fritschi Parade. Feb 10 (Rüüdige Samschtig): Over 60,000 people flooded the streets during the day. Feb 12 (Güdismontag): The Wey-Umzug (Wey Parade) drew 50,000 spectators. Feb 13 (Güdisdienstag): The carnival closed with the record-breaking Monstercorso. Sujets & Atmosphere Creative themes for the year included the "Samba do Brasil" float by the Guuggenmusig Cocoschüttler and various satirical takes on climate change, such as the "Klimamutanten" (Climate Mutants) presented by the Rotseemöven. The Luzerner Fasnachtskomitee (LFK) praised the high quality of the handmade masks (Grende) and floats.
