Surprisingly, this is the easier hike up Pikes Peak. While not technical, it’s definitely long. Devil’s Playground is an amazing wonderland, and if you’re lucky, you will see some doll sheep like we did. Even though there is a road to the top, don’t underestimate this hike. Once the cog railroad is running again, you could take that down so it isn’t such a death march - at nearly 16 miles and almost 5000 feet of gain. The best time to climb Front Range mountains - I think - are in winter or at night because you can avoid the crowds. We saw only a couple groups of people and it was an amazing day with little wind and no threat of storms.
