ISLA DEL SOL BOLIVIA [GRAND TOUR OF SOUTH AMERICA] 4K

We continue onwards to the Isla del Sol, Bolivia in this latest part of our Grand Tour of South America. On this day we would spend long periods travelling, firstly around Lake Titicaca, then crossing the border from Peru and into Bolivia. After a visit to Isla del Sol, we continued on road again to La Paz the capital of Bolivia. The scenery is breathtaking in parts and no more so when you see the distant Cordillera Real a mountain range in the South American Altiplano of Bolivia. Our next stop was Copacabana which is the main town of Bolivia on Lake Titicaca known for its cultural, and traditional festivals. Here we would jump aboard our boat to take us to the a sacred incan island, the Isla del Sol or Sun island. The village of Yumani, located on the south side, is the largest and most developed settlement, historians believe that the island was invaded by incans sometime in the 15th century taking control from the Tiwanaku civilisation. In the times of the Inca empire, it was believed that the Sun God was born here hence its name Island of the Sun. Back on the boat and a return to the mainland to continue our bus journey what happened next was something no one was expecting! We arrived at the Strait of Tiquina a passage that connects the larger and smaller parts of Lake Titicaca in Bolivia. once again we had to get across this short expanse of water, what we didnt relise is that our bus would also be making the trip!
