KMAC Couture 2021: Beauty and the Beat, Film 1, Hell or High Water Film

KMAC Couture: Beauty and the Beat is a film version of KMAC Museum's annual fundraising event, KMAC Couture. KMAC Couture features and supports emerging and established artists, costumers, designers, and milliners through the extraordinary presentation of original couture pieces of wearable art and conceptual fashion designs. The event is usually a live runway show that takes place on Main Street in downtown Louisville, but in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, KMAC Couture 2021 was transformed into this feature film. ​ ​The film first premiered during a live outdoor screening event on October 2nd, 2021. The film is entitled "Beauty and the Beat", which takes its name from the KMAC Couture 2021 curatorial theme. For this years show, artists were asked to create pieces that were inspired by music in some way and then our filmmakers re-contextualized these pieces within their own interpretation of the theme. The result is a stunning piece of work that explores the practice of art-making, fashion and craft through an audio-visual experience. The full film is comprised of six musically themed short films, this short film is the first.
