A patient is said to have a buried penis if his organ is so deeply embedded in the suprapubic fat that the penis remains hidden from view completely. This condition of buried penis is more commonly seen in obese men and also in some individuals with a condition called hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism. Patients with buried penis often have 3 cardinal complaints 1. They suffer from some form of erectile dysfunction or issues with penetration during sex 2. They also have serious difficulties with passing urine (because the organ is buried, urine splashes all around leading to poor genital hygeine) Not just that, with buried penis patients often have many co-existing conditions like 1. COPD (Obstructive pulmonary disease) 2. Diabetes Mellitus 3. High blood cholesterol 4. Lastly a condition called Lichen sclerosis A multidisciplinary approach is required for the management of buried penis and treatment strategies include an active weight loss program to burn the fat around the buried penis and in some instances, patients may require a procedure called 'panniculectomy' combined with a split skin graft.
