Convenience retailers need to adapt their operation to meet significant changes in consumer behaviour. There is also a major format shift from city to urban, how is this taking shape? This episode of Shop Talk LIVE, begins with a conversation between Dan Munford and Joseph Bona, President of Bona Design Lab which considers the current global race for the perfect drive-thru, mostly in the US QSR space, with added elements of personalization and customer service. Interestingly, the economics of adding drive-thru is altering the economic model for brick and mortar locations. How may this affect future store size and labour requirements? Technology is a driving factor for drive-thru innovation. The next segment of the programme features Murshed Mohammed, co-founder of Dubai based DRIVU. Drive-Thru culture was already well established in the Middle East prior to the Pandemic; now it is seen as a necessity. In a short presentation, Murshed shares how DRIVU’s solution provides operators without existing drive-thru infrastructure with a highly convenient Curb-side pick-up offer. Continuing our Middle East region focus, our next item showcases recent developments at innovative UAE player Emarat. An early adopter of an “on the go” café offering Emarat are once again leading the region’s thinking in convenience store design and planning.
