My loves!! 💖 It’s been an incredible month in Senegal, and I can’t wait to share my journey with you! Alhamdulillah, this experience has opened my eyes to so much about culture, food, and community here. In this video, I’m answering your burning questions about my time in Senegal as a Black American, including: 🍽️ Food Highlights: Some of my favorite Senegalese dishes are Yassa Guinar, Mafe, Thiebou Yapp, and Dakhine! I’d highly recommend trying home-cooked meals—I’ve only been to two restaurants here because we eat at home so much. Join me as I share my grocery shopping experience at Auchan! 🌍 Cultural Insights: Living in Senegal has been a beautiful journey of discovery! The cultural differences I’ve noticed are not negative, just very distinct from what I’m used to. While not all Senegalese families are like my husband’s, be prepared for some major culture shock when you arrive. One of the standout features of Senegalese culture is the incredible hospitality. The warmth and kindness of the people here make you feel welcome, even if you’re traveling solo. You’ll be just fine! However, I have to mention the language barrier—it’s a real challenge! Learning a few words in French or Wolof can go a long way in making connections and navigating daily life. Trust me, it’ll enhance your experience immensely!
