Well, here we go guys because this one is a long one! Starting in the house, I go over the plan of action (well, half a plan but whatever) before getting shuteye for the earliest start I've ever done. We get off to a bit of a shaky start at Pollokshaws West after the 0557 train showed up more than 15 minutes late due to signalling problems (thank you ScotFail!). Despite this, it doesn't impact my plan too badly as I get the 0650 Virgin Trains East Coast service to Edinburgh Waverley via Carstairs. I did plan to meet Kyle (class318256) on the 0650 but he slept in and got a later train into Edinburgh. After arriving at Edinburgh, I buy my tickets for my three planned stations before getting 170417 to South Gyle. Halfway into my hour-long session, I meet Kyle (who actually managed to get out of his bed) where we enjoy the second half with a little more bite (by that, I mean horns!). After South Gyle, it's off to Dalmeny on an ex-Alphaline 158 (158870) for another hour-long session (during which we were confined to the northern end of the station due to bridge work). We then cross the Forth Rail Bridge to North Queensferry for another hour (featuring a rare XC Voyager, the NRM HST power car, a trip to the shops and a football on the tracks). We then get a legend of a driver on 158739 back to Edinburgh (giving us a horn across the Forth Rail Bridge) where we grab lunch from the nearby McDonalds and wait a bit for James and Gaz to turn up from the Borders. After some more shenanigans (including catching the Flying Scotsman DVT 82205), we then catch the 1322 Edinburgh to Helensburgh train which gave me a chance to film my first onboard ride in about four months back to Glasgow Queen Street. Afterwards, I seperate from Kyle who goes off to meet Nathan and Jared while I wing everything else from the top of my head. After a while, I end up at Partick where I catch a train to Anderston to prepare for my next onboard ride from Anderston to Motherwell onboard another Juniper train - 334037 - which gives me the opportunity to film my last video of the day at Motherwell. Sadly though, I started getting the 'running on empty' feeling and had to bail out early for the sake of finding a source of electricity. After which, I grab a chippy and get the 1905 service back to Patterton (ignore what I say about future plans, I did an outing on the 9th April which won't have a video diary and I'm doing one on the 15th May for the Flying Scotsman). Special thanks to Kyle (class318256) for joining me! Check out his YouTube channel and Instagram account. He produces good quality content at a variety of places.
