Coloring Product Injection Molding

– Most plastic material is manufactured in a natural form that is clear or milky white. In many instances colors are required for the end use application. In large volumes the color can be compounded in to the material requiring no coloring at the molding machine. In smaller volumes we use a concentrated color in a liquid or concentrated pellet form. There are 3 primary methods of coloring material. Batch Blending or proportion mixing uses mixing machines to blend specified proportions into large batches through mixers that can be delivered to the injection molding machine. The other method is using a piece of machinery at the feed throat of the injection molding machine to dose color into the natural colored plastic resin. The gravimetric blenders disperses the exact amount of color concentrate by weight to the natural material yielding consistency from part to part. We try to utilize gravimetric blenders whenever possible to provide improved accuracy, minimal waste and ease of color changes.
