Eighty years ago, on June 22, 1941, the Great Patriotic War began. There are fewer and fewer witnesses of these dramatic events, and the circle of veterans who defended their homeland is thinning every year. This is especially noticeable in the villages. In one of the village councils of the Vileysky district (Belarus) in the 50-60s of the last century, there were 122 veterans, now there are two left. One of them is Alexey Biryukov. Alexey Fyodorovich got through the occupation, went to the front in 1943. He started with the Rogachev direction, participated in events related to the "Bobruisk boiler". Then there were Slonim, Lida, then Poland, East Prussia... And then - a serious wound, endless hospitals and returning home. Today, the veteran is 96 years old. He has three sons, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A great grief has happened recently: Alexey Fedorovich had to bury one of his sons. But despite the difficult time, he agreed to meet, to remember his difficult and important for all of us life. After all, it is thanks to the feat of Alexander Fedorovich and millions of other Belarusians that Victory Day is marked on our calendar.
