Tribute to the 2010 UMass Drum Majors

The events of autumn 2010, following the sudden passing of Minuteman Marching Band director George N. Parks, are often remembered for people "being at their best when things were at their worst." Among the remarkable cast of characters who stepped up and "adapted and overcame in the face of adversity" were drum majors Sean Donnelly, Bonnie (Harper) Blakely, Aaron Staluppi and John Mange. If "a band is a reflection of its leaders," then the UMMB was indeed drawing inspiration not only from its professional staff but from its student leaders. In a time of crisis, the UMass drum majors "proved they were the best people for the job."
