I have been doing Shibari for many years been in the BDSM community for 35 years so I have seen a LOT of rope! I love this rope for uplines! Its a bit thick and loose laid for body ties but you want a loose laid thick hemp for uplines so the rope does not take a hard bend over the ring! Hard bends from tight laid rope weaken the rope at the bend loose twisted rope flows better over the ring. I still use a 3/4" thick ring so the bend is not too tight. Hemp is around twice the strength of jute and this is 8mm instead of 6mm so its breaking strength is easily over 300#. The metal ends are not an issue if you have good handling skills but if you are a sloppy rope thrower cut them off and tie a thistle or overhand knot in the end. Otherwise your bottom may wind up like a pirate with an eye patch! I prepare this rope the same as jute. I rough it over a ring by winding it around itself three times and sawing it against itself from one end to the other in short strokes. Then I singe it lightly with a torch to remove the fuzz and then run it between beeswax blocks twice. Then I singe again to melt in the wax and then run it through a cloth moistened with Jojoba oil and Egyptian amber, Dragons blood or Nag Champa candle scent( My bottoms prefer Egyptian amber as it leaves a wonderful scent trigger behind!) This rope, properly conditioned holds frictions well and this is my second set of four bundles from this supplier. I wear out upline rope about once every two years (100 to 200 ties or so) so this is my go to rope for uplines!
