DEAD LINE (2025 Short Film) | Dark Drama | Shot on Sony FX6

Award winning Actor/Director Justin Phillip returns to the screen for this intense dark drama set in the streets of DTLA. | DEAD LINE | Official Short Film from DogTimes Productions and the mind of Justin Phillip. This is my first serious acting role since about 2016. Prior to that I spent 15 years as a working actor and member of the Screen Actors Guild. I stepped away from acting to pursue a directing career which was sidetracked by my curiosity of cinematography. CUT TO our current day and I am finally ready to return to my roots. This is a character and story I came up with one day in the shower. Huge shout out to my amazing wife, Marianne, for making this really come together in the edit. I drove multiple laps through downtown Los Angeles while I gave 13 different takes of the entire script. Many thanks to my cinematographer on this one, Miguel Ordaz, be sure to give him a follow ‪@miggyvision8598‬ He endured my neurosis of directing both him & myself while being on camera. Shot on my Sony FX6 as A-cam with my collection of favorite Leica M Lenses: 50mm f/1.2 Noctilux, 28mm f/1.9 Ultron, & 75mm f/2.5 APO. For the traffic exterior shots we used the infamous 70-200 f/2.8 Minolta Sony APO A-mount lens and for the B cam (Sony a7C2, on a FilmTools car mount) we had the 40mm f/2.5 G lens.
