Heart Mantra: "Calling upon Maitreya, the embodiment of loving-kindness, may all be realized and perfected." This sacred mantra pays homage to Maitreya Bodhisattva, emphasizing the power of compassion and the fulfillment of spiritual wisdom. It invokes Maitreya’s boundless benevolence, seeking blessings for the practitioner’s body and mind. ------------------------ Mantra Introduction The tides of time ebb and flow, carrying with them the fleeting thoughts of the mundane world. Yet beyond this endless stream of existence stands a compassionate figure, ever smiling, ever watching. He is Maitreya Bodhisattva, the beacon of hope and benevolence, presently dwelling in the Tusita Heaven, awaiting the destined moment to descend and turn the Dharma wheel, guiding all beings toward liberation. Foretold by Śākyamuni Buddha as the Buddha of the Future, Maitreya embodies the promise of enlightenment yet to come. The imagery of Maitreya Bodhisattva has undergone transformations throughout history. During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period in China, Maitreya’s form became associated with Budai Heshang (Cloth Bag Monk), an eccentric monk with a rotund belly and an ever-radiant smile. Budai wandered the regions of Jiangsu and Zhejiang, carrying a cloth sack, his laughter resonating through the land. Before passing into nirvana, he left behind a verse: "The true Maitreya, manifesting in countless forms; appearing before people at all times, yet few recognize him." His disciples revered him as an incarnation of Maitreya, and thus his image—jovial, broad-bellied, and ever-gracious—became one of the most beloved depictions of Maitreya in the Chinese Buddhist tradition. Known as the Laughing Buddha, he represents the wisdom of boundless generosity and unshakable joy. The Maitreya Bodhisattva Dhāraṇī, recorded in the Collection of Supreme Mahāyāna Secret Dharanis (房山石經, Fangshan Stone Sutra), carries the voice of compassion like a gentle Sanskrit breeze, spreading the nectar of loving-kindness across the world. Chanting this mantra is akin to stepping into Maitreya’s compassionate embrace, cleansing the burdens of the mind and nurturing the seeds of merit, paving a luminous path toward the future. On New Year’s Day, which also marks Maitreya Bodhisattva’s birthday, people celebrate with joy, welcoming the year with compassionate vows, invoking Maitreya’s infinite love and wisdom. At the dawn of a new spring, may Maitreya Bodhisattva bless the world with peace, happiness, and wisdom. May we open our hearts to embrace the coming year with kindness and joy, fostering harmony and fulfilling all aspirations. ------------------------ The Benefits of Chanting Maitreya Bodhisattva’s Mantra Purifies past karma and accumulates vast merit and blessings. Receives Maitreya’s divine protection and is safeguarded from misfortune. Develops compassion and wisdom, illuminating the path ahead. Aligns with Maitreya’s vows, cultivating both virtue and insight. Brings inner peace and serenity, fostering an enduring sense of joy. Fulfills positive aspirations, attracting prosperity and auspicious fortune. Enhances relationships and social harmony, attracting noble friendships. Encourages a heart of kindness, ensuring a smooth and fulfilling life. ------------------------ Video Description This video features three uplifting musical pieces, played in a continuous loop for one hour. The mantra is chanted in its original Sanskrit phonetics.
