What do you think - did we get it right or wrong? Are other threats like climate change now going to threaten the earth, or will we find ways to deal with them in time as well? Let us know what you think in the comments and subscribe for more videos every week. A pervasive fear of overpopulating the world swept America and other countries in the late 1960s and ‘70s, but a revolution in food production turned predictions of a population bomb into a worldwide boom. This video begins with social science experts of yesteryear who made many predictions that exponential growth in human populations would result in overpopulation, starvation and eventually extinction. This theory was encapsulated in Paul Ehrlich's book The Population Bomb. However, these fears were never realized. Among other things, Norman Borlaug led initiatives termed the "Green Revolution" that made increasing populations in the developing world a non-issue. Why didn't people see this coming, even though technological advances have consistently made life better across the earth? Overpopulation or overabundance is a phenomenon in which a species' population becomes larger than the carrying capacity of its environment. This may be caused by increased birth rates, lower mortality rates, reduced predation or large scale migration, leading to the overabundant species and other animals in the ecosystem competing for food, space, and resources. The animals in an overpopulated area may then be forced to migrate to areas not typically inhabited, or die off without access to necessary resources. #unbelievable #documentary
