Bendigo Freedom Camp is located in Central Otago, New Zealand. A freedom camp is a government-owned campsite that you do not have to pay for. I stayed here for 3 nights in January 2023, which is summertime in NZ. It's located on Lake Dunstan, and it's a short distance from Cromwell, which is a town surrounded by cherry farms. Bendigo Freedom Camp is a good stop-over when you're heading to Queenstown. You can hike in the hills across the road from the camp. Certified self-contained campers were not a requirement, so campers are allowed to stay in tents if they want to.
