In this video Alan was kind enough to give KPMS a presentation on how he takes beautifully artistic as well as research grade photography of mushrooms in their natural habitat. Alan Rockefeller is the son of two science teachers and is a self taught mycologist who has been studying mushrooms for over 20 years. He is the chief mycologist for Mimosa Therapeutics, a small psychedelic company in Amsterdam and Oakland California. He resides in California and had a laboratory where he does all kinds of citizen science involving fungus. He is on the leading edge of a band of modern day mycologists determined to separate species of mushrooms that were once thought to be ubiquitous the world over, but are actually different genetically and deserve new names. He also is a hobbyist and professional photographer and breaks it all down in this rather long and in-depth talk about how he learned to take good mushroom photos and how he does it today. He also gives us a good look at a bunch of mushroom species from around the world that you might not be familiar with. Very big thanks to Alan for agreeing to give this talk! He truly is inspiring with how he gives freely of his time and contributes to the mushroom world!
